About fast loading, auto load, auto play and auto stop

Fast loading, auto load, auto play and auto stop are designed to make it easier and faster to load audio cassette files (.tap and .tzx).

Fast loading, flashloading and edge detection

When fast loading is enabled, Spectaculator will load audio cassette files as fast as possible. This is dependent on the speed of your computer. The faster your computer, the faster the files will load.

With flashloading and edge detection also enabled, load times can be reduced to almost zero.

Auto load

When you open an audio cassette file, if Spectaculator detects it contains a runnable program, it will automatically reset the Spectrum and begin loading. You do not need to type the appropriate ZX Spectrum BASIC load command.

Auto play

Spectaculator presses the play button automatically when it detects the Spectrum wants to load data from the current audio cassette file.

Auto stop

Spectaculator presses the stop button automatically when it detects the Spectrum does not want to load data from the current audio cassette file.

Stop at end of tape

When the end of the tape is reached, Spectaculator will automatically stop playback and not restart it even if the Spectrum is still trying to load more data. This allows you to insert side 2 of an audio cassette file for a multiload game without problems.

Note

  • If you press the stop button at any time, this will temporarily override auto play. This feature is designed to stop auto play kicking in when you want to stop playback but the Spectrum is still requesting data.

  • Occasionally, you may come accross an audio cassette file where auto play/stop does not work as expected. In this case, you should disable auto play/stop by clicking the auto play/stop button, image1, and use the cassette recorder to control playback manually.

  • The signal coming in from the soundcard overrides the signal from the virtual cassette recorder. Make sure you disable the loading from an external audio source feature when you are using the cassette recorder.
