About General Sound

General Sound is an add-on device for the Russian Pentagon and Scorpion machines.

It provides these machines with 4 channel 8-bit digital stereo sound, with a 6-bit volume controller for each channel.

It comes with its own CPU (12MHz Z80H) and memory (up to 512KB) and is capable of playing Amiga .MOD files independently of the host system.

There are a few games converted for General Sound in World of Spectrum's TR-DOS section of the archive (e.g. Zynaps, Renegade).

Note

• General Sound emulation requires substantially more of your computer's resources. Spectaculator needs to emulate a 12MHz Z80H in additional to the Pentagon or Scorpion's 3.5MHz Z80A. A fast Pentium II or Pentium III-class processor is recommended.

Tip

• As General Sound uses more of your computer's resources, only enable the emulation when you wish to play a game or run a demo that uses it. For Notebook users, this can save a lot of battery power.
