To load programs or data from an external audio source

  1. Using a suitable lead, connect the audio source to the Line-in socket on your soundcard.

  2. On the Tools menu, click Load from Audio Source.

  3. Reset the Spectrum and type the appropriate load command into BASIC (normally LOAD ""). For the 128k/+2/+2A and +3 Spectrums, you can normally use the tape loader from the menu.

  4. Start playback of the audio source.

  5. If the program does not load, adjust the volume and tone controls and try again.

  6. Once finished, click Load from Audio Source again on the Tools menu to disable loading (the checkbox next to it will disappear).

Tip

  • You will probably need to experiment with the volume level of your audio source to get programs to load correctly. As a start, set the volume at a level where the program loads into a real Spectrum.

  • Sometimes Spectaculator will fail to process the signal from the soundcard fast enough due to Windows being busy doing other things. If you experience this, try reducing the number of other programs running to a bare minimum.

Note

  • The signal coming in from the soundcard overrides the signal from the virtual cassette recorder. Make sure you disable this feature when you are not using it.
