Real joystick support

Spectaculator emulates the Kempston, Cursor (AGF or Protek), Fuller, Sinclair ZX Interface 2 and Comcon joystick interfaces allowing you to use your PC game controllers to play your favourite games.

To use a real joystick

  1. Ensure the game controller you want to use is installed and configured correctly.

  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.

  3. Click the Joystick tab

  4. Choose the PC game controller (player 1 or 2) you want to use from the list.

  5. Choose the Spectrum joystick interface this joystick should emulate.

  6. Open the game you want to play.

  7. Choose correct joystick option from the game's menu and start playing.

Tip

  • The extra buttons on your game controller can be configured as key presses on the Spectrum keyboard. This is useful for games such as Atic Atac where you otherwise need to use both the joystick and the keyboard.

  • By using the Comcon programmable joystick interface, you can use a real joystick with almost any game (even if they do not have a joystick option).

Note

  • The AMX mouse hardware clashes with the Kempston joystick interface (they both use port 31). The joystick will not respond if the AMX mouse is enabled.
