About the Multiface

The Multiface is a multipurpose interface for the ZX Spectrum designed and manufactured by Romantic Robot. It originally came in three models:

• Multiface 1 - for the 48k ZX Spectrum

• Multiface 128 - for the 48k and 128k ZX Spectrum

• Multiface 3 - for the ZX Spectrum +2A/+3

Spectaculator emulates the Multiface 1, Multiface 128 and Multiface 3. For a detailed description of the features of the Multiface, see the original manuals available online from Spectrum Computing.

Spectaculator can be configured to use either the Multiface 1 or Multiface 128 when emulating the 16k or 48k Spectrum. For other Spectrum models, the appropriate Multiface is automatically selected.

Important

Some programs for the ZX Spectrum attempt to detect the presence of the Multiface and, if detected, immediately crash the system. Many custom loaders such as the Speedlock series employ this as a means of copy protection.

As a result, many games will fail to load unless the Multiface is disabled. As a rule of thumb, you should keep it disabled until you intend to use it.
