To write protect or write enable a Microdrive cartridge

  1. If the Microdrives window is hidden, click Microdrives on the View menu.

  2. Click the lock icon next to the cartridge you want to write-protect or write-enable.

Write protect states

[ Unlocked ]

The cartridge is write-enabled. Any changes written by the Spectrum are automatically committed to disk.

[ Locked ]

The cartridge is write-protected. Any attempts by the Spectrum to write to the cartridge will produce Drive 'write' protected errors.

[ Greylock ]

The cartridge is write-protected and cannot be write enabled. The cartridge is probably on read-only media such as CD-ROM, DVD or the actual file is read-only on disk. Any attempts by the Spectrum to write to the cartridge will produce Drive 'write' protected errors.

Note

  • Microdrive cartridges on read-only media such as CD-ROMs or DVDs are always write-protected.

  • Treat Microdrive cartridge files just like the real thing - do not reset the Spectrum or exit Spectaculator while the Spectrum is reading or writing to a cartridge.
